Our Approach to Reviews & Recommendations
Trust should never require guesswork.
When someone shares an opinion about a product, you deserve to understand the relationship, if any, behind that opinion.
Our approach to product reviews and recommendations has evolved as W222 has grown. Some parts of our philosophy, however, have been absolute from the beginning.
We have never paid for a review. We have never offered affiliate commissions, referral payments, or fees in exchange for mentions, reviews, shares, or posts.
We have never entered a community under false pretenses, posed as a W222 customer, or concealed our identity while promoting our products.
We have occasionally provided complimentary products. This page explains when and why we have done so, how our approach has changed, and the principles that guide us today.
The opinion should always belong to the person sharing it.
The principles that have not changed
We have never:
-
Paid for a review
-
Offered affiliate commissions or referral payments
-
Paid people to mention, share, or post about W222
-
Required someone to express a positive opinion
-
Entered another company’s community under false pretenses
-
Pretended to be a customer while promoting W222
-
Used anonymous or undisclosed accounts to manufacture praise
-
Attempted to diminish another company to elevate our own
We believe our products should earn attention through the experiences of the people who genuinely use them.
How we introduced Wonderland 222
When Wonderland 222 first launched in 2019, we had no established audience and virtually no followers. Customers could not yet discover us through an existing body of reviews and user experiences because those experiences did not exist.
To introduce our products, we sent complimentary books to some people and asked whether they would be interested in reviewing or sharing them with their communities. We also received many requests from people interested in reviewing our products, and we fulfilled more of those requests during our early years than we do today.
In some of those conversations, we asked how the person intended to share the product or when they anticipated posting. We did not provide scripts, dictate conclusions, approve reviews, or require positive coverage.
We did not pay a review fee or offer a commission. The complimentary product itself was the relationship, and it should have been disclosed as such.
That early outreach helped people discover Wonderland 222 when we were a new company without an established customer community.
How our approach evolved
As we grew, more customers began finding, purchasing, using, and sharing our products naturally.
The genuine experiences of our customers replaced the need for widespread introductory outreach. As a result, we became increasingly selective about providing complimentary products for reviews and began declining most of the requests we received.
Today, sending products in the hope of general exposure is not how we choose to grow.
What you see shared about Wonderland 222 comes from customers who independently chose our products and decided for themselves whether to share and what to share about them.
There are now very limited circumstances in which we may provide a complimentary product, for example, an occasional thank you to a customer we have noticed within our community, or a product supplied for a useful independent planner comparison.
Wonderland 222 Advocates
We are fortunate to have a broad community of customers who use and share our products regularly and genuinely.
Over the past couple of years, we began recognizing individuals within that community with a thank-you gift. We informally call these customers W222 Advocates, although this is not a formal ambassador, affiliate, or promotional program.
There is no application process, contract, posting schedule, or required content. Customers do not contact us to request this recognition.
We discover W222 Advocates ourselves by noticing customers who were already purchasing, using, and talking about our books consistently before we contacted them and without an arrangement or incentive from us.
From time to time, we send one of these customers a planner or planner and notebook combo as a personal thank you.
These gifts are intentionally limited and selected individually. Our choices are not based on follower counts, subscriber numbers, engagement statistics, or potential reach.
The gift does not come with a request to post. We do not require recipients to create content, publish a certain number of posts, or express a positive opinion.
Their genuine sharing came first. Our thank you came later.
Independent planner comparisons
Occasionally, someone creating a thoughtful comparison among planner systems or sharing actual use of our books in order to provide an honest review asks us to provide a product.
We consider these requests individually and fulfill very few of them. We look for comparisons that can offer planner users genuinely useful information.
When we provide a product for comparison or review:
-
The recipient remains free to form and share their own opinion
-
Positive coverage is not requested or required
-
We do not provide a script or prescribed message
-
We do not preview or approve the conclusion
-
We do not pay a review fee or offer a commission
-
We ask that the complimentary product be clearly disclosed
Providing a product makes the comparison possible. It does not purchase a favorable conclusion.
Clear disclosure
We believe people should be able to distinguish between a product someone purchased and one they received from Wonderland 222.
When a person discusses a planner or notebook received from us, we ask that they clearly disclose that the product was complimentary or gifted by Wonderland 222.
That disclosure does not make the resulting opinion less genuine. It simply gives readers the context they deserve so they can evaluate the recommendation for themselves.
If someone purchased our product and recommends it, there is no affiliate commission or referral payment behind their words. If someone received the product from us, that relationship should be visible.
In either situation, the opinion remains entirely their own.
How we choose to grow today
Our approach today is simple:
-
We do not pay for reviews, mentions, shares, or posts
-
We do not offer affiliate commissions or referral payments
-
We do not manufacture customer enthusiasm
-
We identify ourselves honestly when participating in a community
-
We accept that genuine opinions may include criticism
-
We provide complimentary products only in limited circumstances
-
We ask recipients to disclose products received from us
-
We allow people to reach their own conclusions
We would rather learn from an honest criticism than purchase the appearance of universal approval.
Why this matters to us
Trust is difficult to earn and easy to lose.
Wonderland 222 has grown from a new company trying to introduce an unfamiliar product into a company supported by an established community of customers. Our approach has matured with us, and we believe transparency includes acknowledging that evolution.
What has not changed is our belief that recommendations should not be secretly purchased, manufactured, or manipulated.
Customer communities are built on shared interests, useful information, and trust. We consider it a privilege when our products become part of those conversations.
We may have changed how we introduce our products, but the opinion has always belonged to the person sharing it.
